Wedding Day Makeup Tips With Sally Bracey

Wondering how to achieve the perfect makeup look for your wedding day? Are you looking for a gorgeous look for a special occasion? Whether a makeup artist will be turning you into a beautiful bride or you will be doing your own makeup, we have the secrets to the perfect wedding makeup look, which is also wearable for special occasions as well.

In this blog you will find some professional make up advice and tips from one of our favourite Bristol makeup artists, Sally Bracey of Sallys Makeup. We have witnessed Sally apply her professional makeup skills to many of our brides and below are top makeup tips from the talented makeup artist herself. We also asked Sally some questions and discovered her favourite makeup brands and much more!!

Wedding Makeup

Before I start, I would always say never venture too far from your comfort zone when it comes to wedding makeup. It is not the day to experiment with different looks and styles. Your husband to be wants to be able to recognise you when you walk down the isle towards him! Wedding makeup should be there to enhance your beauty – not hide it. You want to aim for a perfectly polished version of you.

Always wear a good primer suited to your skin type (for example oil control for greasy or combination skin) that way you can insure your makeup is going to last all day and night, also use a primer on your eyes to keep your eye makeup in place and to stop creasing.

Foundation needs to be slightly more on the matt side rather than too shiny otherwise you run the risk of looking greasy in your pictures. If you want a luminous look you can achieve this with highlight

Lashes are a great idea for really making your eyes stand out, if you are nervous of lashes then individual ones may be the way for you. Make sure you have a colour on your lips, even if you don’t normally wear lipstick, a slight colour is fine. You want to balance out your eyes and lips in the pictures and if you have no colour at all your lips they will disappear! Set your makeup with a setting spray to ensure you look picture perfect all day.

Congratulations on your recent wedding with us! What made you choose No.4 as your own wedding venue?

No.4 was the perfect venue for my husband and I as we were look for a small, intimate wedding venue with just close friends and family. We wanted everything to be in one place with a relaxed, rustic feel.

Talk us through your own wedding day makeup.

My own wedding makeup was very natural. I went for flawless skin, neutral colours on my eyes, big lashes and a slightly bolder lip in a plum colour as I had an autumn wedding.

What are your top 5 go to makeup brands?

There are so many amazing makeup brands out at the moment! I love Estee Lauder Double Wear for a very long lasting, good coverage foundation. I also Love Nars foundations which are slightly more sheer. Eye palettes are great as they have a selection of colours in one palette.
I love Mac eye colours and also the Anastasia Beverley Hills eye palette is beautiful.
Lip colours have to be Mac! They have a huge selection of colours in different finishes. Definitely something for everyone!

What can we expect from you in 2017?

2017 Is a very busy year for me! I have over 30 weddings booked in already, I have entered the Bristol and Somerset Wedding Awards and am also entering the NHFederation competition. I am managing to squeeze in a new college course in Media makeup and prosthetic’s so Halloween makeups are going to be even more fun! I am always learning new things and look forward to passing my knowledge onto all of my beautiful brides and customers.

We would like to wish Sally the best for 2017 and can’t wait to see more of her stunning makeup looks! If you’re getting married in 2017 or recently got engaged (congratulations!), take a closer look at our civil wedding venue and share any questions you may have with us. Contact us here.

All of the wonderful images on this post are with thanks to Adam at West 70 Photography – and you can find a link to his website at the bottom of this post. We’re sure you’ll agree that he’s done a fantastic job and all of the images are beautiful.

So West 70 Photography took all of the images but who came up with the styling? Well that beauty is all down to Liz at Elizabeth Weddings. All of the colours, styles, stationary and more are her ideas. She has a fantastic ability to bring out the best in things and always compliments them perfectly. Take a look at her handmade table stationary in these images:

No beautiful style would be complete without the very best of flowers. Lisa Elliot supplied all of the pretty flowers and arrangements for our shoot. Her work is always fantastic and we love filling No.4 with the scent of her flowers.
